Assessing and improving security of critical assets and site infrastructure

Published: 4 July 2025

As the UK’s energy and industry demands evolve and the systems behind the scenes grow more complex, making sure critical infrastructure is physically secure has never been more important.

That means every site, no matter how remote – because operational buildings and the assets within them are key pieces of a giant puzzle that keep the UK functioning. If assets aren’t properly protected, the impacts can be massive; affecting consumers, business continuity, and costing time and money.

Addressing complex demands

Asset owners and managers of critical infrastructure are responsible for ensuring their sites and assets are up to standard. But for some of our clients, the physical scale of keeping track of these sites and the equipment within them is a major challenge – especially when other considerations jockey for time and investment.

We help clients meet these complex obligations by assessing and improving the security of their asset portfolios for them. This results in upgrading the security of assets – both physically and operationally – across a broad landscape of sites and asset types.

Our services protect sites and their assets by addressing key threats that include everything from the impacts of weather extremes to ageing infrastructure (and the additional considerations at remote sites).

Our approach and implementation

To shape the right plan for the client, we start by visiting sites to get a clear picture of their current asset structure and identify anything that might affect timelines. We use our own Mineral Blue software to digitise the data collection process, greatly reducing lead times, enhancing data accuracy, and streamlining reporting.

We then build our recommendations around the specific requirements that apply in that client’s sector, so the project aims embed compliance from the start.

We can provide a full, end-to-end assessment across multiple sites, focused on identifying security gaps and providing actionable information. We can also help with developing the scope, and managing the implementation, of the necessary security upgrades.

Outcome and results

Our recommendations are tailored to each site’s unique needs. We assess how existing buildings will support proposed enhancements and provide a roadmap for getting these completed. Importantly, we deliver all this within a concise project timeline, ensuring an efficient, cost-effective service without compromising on quality.

What this process does is inform and empower asset owners – by mobilising quickly, we will assess, recommend and guide the pathway to improvements, so our clients are enabled to pre-emptively build stronger, smarter safeguarding before vulnerabilities even emerge.
