IGEM technical training
New gas infrastructure must consistently meet the evolving requirements of UK legislation, and existing infrastructure be correctly maintained. The courses we deliver for the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers aim to create a workforce that can address both these challenges, by preparing attendees for the exacting nature of working in the energy sector.
Our IGEM technical training courses are built upon the energy and utilities sector standards. The training is designed to ensure that everyone working in these sectors is equipped with the skills and practical abilities needed to deliver their responsibilities safely, competently, and in alignment with the needs of stakeholders and the environment. The varied materials combine presentations, practical activities, working examples, interactive questions, and group discussion.
Courses we deliver
We deliver the following introductory courses, which are available to book through IGEM.
This engaging and practical course examines steel pipelines for high pressure gas transmission. It considers the principles for design, build, commissioning, maintenance and operation as presented in IGEM/TD/1 Edition 6.
This course introduces the models for assessing the risks of high pressure natural gas pipelines, as adopted in IGEM/TD/2 Edition 3.
This engaging course examines steel and polyethylene pipelines for the distribution of odourised gas or un-odourised dry natural gas and liquified petroleum gas (LPG). It considers the principles for design, construction, inspection, testing and operation of these pipelines as presented in IGEM/TD/3 Edition 6.
A course for those involved in the installation, management or supervision of assets comprising welded and flanged joints that could require stress analysis to validate integrity under normal and exceptional operating conditions. It will help identify when stress analysis is required and ensure it is carried out competently.
A course developed for anyone involved in the installation, management or supervision of pressure regulating installations for natural gas, liquified petroleum gas and liquified petroleum gas/air in accordance with IGEM/TD/13.
This online course intends to create a workforce prepared for the exacting and high-profile nature of safe gas supply to multi-occupancy buildings. Drawing on lessons of the past, it examines UK legislation, the interdependency of roles and responsibilities, and the positive safety impacts of full cooperation and transparency throughout gas supply to multi-occupancy buildings.
An introduction to materials and equipment quality that clarifies the difference between accreditation and certification, and demonstrates the importance of quality assurance in procurement. The training identifies the key material and equipment certificates encountered throughout the energy sector. It provides individuals with the confidence to verify certificates and documentation, enabling them to manage and maintain assets successfully.
