Safety, Health & Environmental Awareness (SHEA) scheme

SHEA training builds core health, safety and environmental awareness aligned with HSE principles. Developed with energy/utilities sectors, it includes six core modules plus industry-specific ones for gas, power, water, telecoms, and cross-country.

SHEA Core

Six mandatory modules for all utilities cover: workplace responsibilities, environmental impact, risk control, common hazards, occupational health, and emergency response. Specialism modules can be added for specific industries.

SHEA Gas

Part of the EUSR suite and required for access to gas sector sites. It includes six core modules and three modules specific to gas: highway working and excavations (gas), pressure regulating installations, and safety in premises. Suitable for operatives, supervisors and managers.

SHEA Power

For those working in power generation, transmission and distribution. It includes six core modules and two modules specific to power: power generation, transmission and distribution, and power industry hazards. Designed for all roles in the power sector.

SHEA Water

Part of the EUSR suite, for those in the UK water industry. It includes six core modules and two modules specific to water: clean and wastewater operations, and highway working and excavations (water). Suitable for clean and wastewater roles.

SHEA Telecoms

For those needing access to telecoms sites. It includes six core modules and one module specific to telecoms: working safely underground, in the highway, and overhead.

Cross-Country Pipelines (CCP)

For all roles needing access to gas sites. It includes six core modules and three modules specific to cross-country pipelines: the cross-country environment, cross-country pipeline hazards, and traffic management.

Safe Control of Operations (SCO)

Building on the six core modules are permit to work (PtW), non-routine operations (NRO), routine operations (RO, and form of authority (FoA). Ideal for those working on networks or meter installations, including authorising engineers and competent persons.

National Water Hygiene

The ‘Blue Card’ ensures safe water practices. Anyone entering clean water sites or doing ‘restricted operations’ must have this registration. Required for work at reservoirs, treatment plants, pumping stations, wells, springs, and the water network.

Products for Drinking Water

The ‘Purple Card’ ensures materials in contact with drinking water meet safety standards. Covers eight modules on compliance, testing and approval. Ideal for those in operations, procurement, supply chain, or consultancy in the water industry.
