Charlie Sirs
Project Manager (Bio-Methane)
Charlie is a Project Manager with over 47 years’ experience within the energy sector. Having recently returned after 4 and a half years working on Major Projects in Kazakhstan, Moscow and Eastern Turkey, Charlie became an Associate of QEM Solutions in August 2015 to head up the Bio-Methane installation Projects programme for NGN.
This returns Charlie to his roots as he started his first job in August 1968 for what was then known as the “Northern Gas Board”. Charlie started as an apprentice gas fitter and with career moves within Northern Gas moved up to various management positions with Transmission and Distribution departments encompassing maintenance and operations functions.
Charlie joined British Gas in 1991 and until 2011 worked on the management of High Pressure Transmission projects including large diameter pipeline installation and the building of many compressor stations for British Gas/ National Grid. During this period Charlie worked for not only BG/NG prior to redundancy but also moved on to work for Project Management consultants engaged by BG/NG and had spells with UK and International Tier 1 contractors.
In 2011 Charlie took up the role of Director of Construction for “Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures” on a Russian funded Expansion Project to transport Oil from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea for onward transportation to Europe. On Completion of the role in Kazakhstan Charlie took up a role as part of the management team on the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline which receives Azerbaijan Gas via Georgia and onward to Greece. Charlie was part of the Turkish Management team which were tasked with designing and building the 1850 km x 1400mm pipeline which crossed East to West across the whole of Turkey.
When not fulfilling his Project Management duties, Charlie enjoys supporting local football and is also a passionate supporter of his boyhood team “Hartlepool United” (no monkey comments, please)! When football is not on the agenda Charlie follows his other passion of BRISCA Stock Car racing, having given up driving his Formula 2 car a few years ago unfortunately his role is now reduced to spectating. Charlie has recently enrolled alongside other NGN colleagues as a mentor for young underprivileged children in Hull as part of the Hull Children’s University scheme.
