News Spotlight Cadent and QEM: Hydrogen’s Critical Moment

Energy, and the question of where we get it, has never claimed as many column inches as it does now. Climate change is an increasingly urgent concern, while war in Ukraine has, at the same time, made the whole of Europe rethink every aspect of its energy landscapes. This is a critical moment to be working in the industry.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management

ISO 14001 Environmental Management

Many companies do not fully understand their legal obligations with respect to waste management, pollution prevention and emissions reduction.  Talking to QEM Solutions and implementing an ISO 14001 compliant management system helps to dramatically reduce the risk of breaching environmental legislation.

For example, many organisations don't know that:

  • it is a legal requirement in Scotland to segregate your recyclables.
  • it is a legal requirement for organisations with over 250 employees to comply with ESOS ( Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme).
  • it is a legal requirement to have your waste removed by a registered waste carrier.

QEM have helped numerous organisations gain certification to ISO 14001:2015, the internationally recognised standard for environmental management.

So first things first, we always get our clients through certification with a UKAS accredited certification body. Why? Because without the UKAS tick, more often than not, your clients won't recognise it as a valid certification. If you want to know more why not check out our partners blog here.

We have a 100% success rate.

ISO 14001:2015 is a risk-based standard, so it focuses on the high risk areas of your business. Unlike the previous version of the standard it is no longer achieveable with a "tick box exercise". Instead, the standard actively promotes reducing your impact on the environment and the impact of your suppliers.

Why not have a look at how it helps control waste on our cloud-based management system partner's blog, here.

So how can we help?

Well, we have consultants that are commutable to most locations.

  • South / Central Scotland.
  • North of England (Newcastle/Manchester)
  • Midlands (Birmingham)
  • South of England (London)
  • Wales

We can do as much or as little as you want. That makes sure that you are in charge of the budget and the actions.  If you don't have the resource time we can weave ourselves into your organisation.  If you do, we can watch and advise where required.

We have a cloud-based management system that reduces costs of implementation and makes it easier to actually run your business. http://www.iscompliant.com

The process will generally consist of the following steps:

  1. Carry out a gap analysis (to see how close you are to compliance - you may be surprised at how much you already have in place!)
  2. Identify your key impacts and highlight any areas that require additional actions for legal compliance
  3. Set out opportunities for improvement
  4. Divide the actions between your own team and QEM
  5. Establish if our cloud-based software is suitable www.iscompliant.com
  6. Establish the scope i.e. what do you want covered by your certification
  7. Develop documentation and processes
  8. Start implementing new processes where applicable
  9. Identify suitable certification bodies and go out to tender
  10. Confirm timescales for certification
  11. Gather at least 3 months' objective evidence
  12. Manage the certification process
